Couch Hack 3

Ok, so last year I bought an inexpensive chaise lounge.

I know buying furniture online is asking for trouble, but I was thinking of building one from scratch but didnt have the time or raw materials. This would at least give me something in the mean time, and raw materials if it wasnt comfortable.

When i received it, the design looks nice, but it isnt comfortable for someone over 6ft tall. So for the last year I have been mostly been laying on teh floor to watch tv which I am perfectly fine with, but I would like this thing to be comfortable as well.

The discomfort was believed to be two fold. One, the curve at the foot end is in the wrong place for me and to severe. I wanted this to just be a gentle arc. So i decided to tear it down and modify the frame. Took about a solid days labor and came out really well.

So i brought it back in the house and tried it out..my legs were good now, but my lower back still wasnt happy, neither was my neck. So I took it back out to the garage, and tore into the back rest to change the angle. This was a little trickier, but I was able to figure it out and again came out really well.

Modifying the frame of your furniture to change the angle may seem intimidating, but it turned out to be a quite approachable project for your average do it your selfer!

One last addition I may make to it after some more use..I can feel the springs through the top padding a little bit. Not bad, not uncomfortable, just a little low quality of a feel. Maybe its because the elastic webbing has been drawn tighter with the two modifications, or maybe its just because the padding in the top is minimal, or maybe I am just heavier than its target weight range. (probably all three combined). Anyway a layer of soft foam over the springs will probably do the trick.

Ok so it took me like a month, but I finally got around to building some legs for it. originally it was up 4in off the ground but that was to low. I went up 10 inches in the back and 9in* 10in at the feet. I am particularly proud of the the C clamps holding it to the legs lol! The final step will be to staple or velcro on a black skirt to hide the arch and the wood legs. While it looks kinda sketchy its actually rock solid. (*I had to add another spacer to even it out)

May the power of bachelor compel you!

I have to say...compare that final picture with the first one, it just looks soooo much more comfortable! I almost want to buy a second one now and put them together to have double wide. It would still be cheaper than a one regular one.

I ended up ditching this after a couple years, The frame and height were now right, but I should have added another 3" of foam in there when I had it open. I could still feel the cross slats through the cheap shredded fabric/foam chunk padding.
