This is a quick post on a project I have been tinkering with this week.
A manual engine lift takes an annoying amount of pumps to get into a usable position or lift a load. I recently scored an electric hydraulic power pack off of a used van wheel chair lift and thought it would be fun to use in a project. Incidentally I also ended up breaking my engine lift jack at the exact same time, which lead to this project.

There are adjustable hydraulic flow control valves I can put in line to help with this.
I am also researching the possibility of adding a variable speed PWM DC motor control to the supply line to maybe control it that way. Some pwm controllers also support ramp in/out features which should give really nice smooth starts. They can also have RC input modes.
also I think I will be adding a little bit more 1/4in plate to embrace the column where the lower amount is to get some extra weld surface area. As protonhead1mention its probably a good idea. At the time of building I had to use the 3/8 plate and didnt want to use any more than necessary, butting up some 1/4 to it though to brace back into the column will be perfect though.
