metrology station

So no surprise, but I am a bit of a science nerd.

There have been times where i have wanted to measure small things under the microscope but was just never happy with my tooling. I think i finally have a setup that meets my precision requirements.

This is my calibration setup to test the technique. A stylus is mounted rigidly over a micrometer slide. A digital dial indicator allows me to easily take relative measurements and zero arbitrarily, and the alignments above the stylus are microscope assisted. The calipers are my current reference test width. I will eventually buy a guage block or something.

I can neither confirm nor deny if the slide table and calipers are currently held in place with blue tack.

It is proving to have great repeatability and accuracy!
